Underground Drilling Causing Earthquakes?
On Tuesday 12/04/12 at 8:15 am 25 miles from Trinidad, Colorado, a 3.9 magnatude earthquake was felt.
Also on Tuesday local television station KRDO news reporter Jaclyn Rostie reports that the U.S. Geological Survey study, also out on this same week, blames the underground disposal of wastewater from drilling operations for the seismic activity.
KRDO: Co-Author scientist Justin Rubinstein said the industry is to blame for an earthquake in Trinidad last year. “At the time of the earthquake … two wells located quite close to the magnitude 4.7 and 5.3 quakes were infecting between 170,000 and 270,000 barrels per month,” he said.
He said their research focused on the Raton Basin of southern Colorado and northern New Mexico between 1970 to 2012. Rubinstein said their data show the frequency of earthquakes also jumped considerably since drilling operations started in 1999.
“It’s a pretty hard argument to make that a change in earthquake rate from five earthquakes in 30 years to 99 in 11 isn’t related to human activity,” said Rubinstein.
The earthquake last year mentioned in the study was on 08/22/11, and was nine miles from Trinidad, Colorado. KRDO News report also states the Colorado Survey chief Vince Matthews said the study is premature because all the Colorado quakes are of different nature, some linear, some oval, and some are deeper than others. Matthews also stated the Colorado Oil and Gas Conservation Commission is asking state geologists to review all new drilling permits for earthquake risks.
What KRDO news failed to do was remember the Press Release I sent them back on September 15th, 2011 about my 37 Degree Latitude Theory.
Back in September I was mapping all my animal mutilation cases in Colorado and saw the majority of them fell on a 37 degree latitude. Then I started looking across the United States following the 37 degree latitude lay-line and found numerous UFO sightings reported to various websites. Then on 08/22 Colorado had an earthquake near Trinidad which also fell on the 37 degree latitude, and then something very interesting happened. Within 15 hours of Colorado’s earthquake, Louisa County, Virginia had an earthquake also falling on a 37 degree latitude. What the hell was going on?
I started researching these two earthquakes and found the 2011 Colorado earthquake’s depth was 2.5 miles and the 2011 Virginia earthquake was 3.7 miles. Earthquakes occurring at a depth of less than 70 Kilometers or 37.8 miles deep are considered “shallow-focus” earthquakes. Both Colorado and Virginia quakes were extremely shallow by normal standards and now the most recent 2012 Colorado earthquake was at 5.7km or 3 miles deep! Another very shallow earthquake.
The following is a direct paragraph from my 2011 blog from this website.
Could underground tunneling cause earthquakes? Plenty of research has been done covering the stories of underground bases near the Colorado New Mexico border. We do know earthquakes can be induced as a result when fluids are pumped out of or into the ground. Also digging mines or tunnels can disrupt the natural stress state of underground rock thus causing a shallow mantel earthquake. What about the Virginia earthquake? More underground tunneling or drilling?
So more than a year after my blog reported to the public pointing shallow earthquakes to drilling, a U.S. Geological Survey releases the same theory! A YEAR LATER!
Not bad for a UFO investigator to report this information first to the public before the Federal government does.
