When is the “Witching Hour” ?
Most people think midnight is The Witching Hour because a lot of TV and movie shows use that particular time due to the beginning of a new day, but if you dive a little deeper into this topic, you’ll learn why midnight isn’t correct and it includes more than one hour.
After some research it appears “The Witching Hour” term was devised by Pope Pius IV around 1560. The good Pope was involved with the concept of witch-hunting probably due to a lot of unknown reasons why people were dying. Not having the medical knowledge or technology we have today pertaining to diseases, different types of sicknesses or poisons are even allergies, there had to be an explanation or a reason why so many people were getting sick and dying.
Well, it must be Witchcraft and there must be a certain time of day those pesky Witches do those dastardly deeds.
Based on Christianity the best time to summon demons or cast spells would start at 3:00am. According to the best estimates of biblical scholars and historical evidence, Jesus died on Friday, April 3rd, AD 33, at approximately 3 PM, a few hours before the beginning of Passover day and the Sabbath.
Some believe 3:00 AM being 12 hours from 3:00 PM, the time Jesus had died, is the optimal time for demons and dark entities to conduct their business. Why? Maybe due to mockery of the time of Jesus’s death, or maybe because it’s the furthest time from Jesus’s death which, in the spirit world, it’s safer if you partake in the Dark Science. Also, some believe the number 3 is also significant because in Christianity it represents the Holy Trinity of the Father, the Son, and the Holy Spirit, so this time could also be considered mockery.
There are other significant importances with the number 3 in Christianity like; Resurrection, Divine Presence and Testing and Validation, so 3:00 AM could also be used as a mockery for those things too!
Note: Consider 3:00 AM as just a variable defining two to three hours before sunrise depending on your location on this planet.
Through centuries the “Witching Hour” term has been used many times to invoke fear into people mostly for control. Like Heaven and Hell, going to Hell in the afterlife for being evil is a pretty good deterrent for those who contemplate doing something wrong. Now if you’re a Witch, well then you must be communicating with Satan.
When practicing Witchcraft, time and place can also play a significant role while working spells or trying to connect to the other side. Certain hours of the day would make it easier for spirit communication. As a person who has run many Ghost Investigations, and yes, you can do them during the daytime, the nighttime has less distractions to deal with, like traffic noise being one of them. It’s quieter at night which is great for running EVP sessions, its cooler which is better for atmospheric issues which can affect your instruments, and it’s darker which of course helps with night vision equipment.
After 3:00 AM till almost dawn is also the perfect time for astronomy. It’s the best time to see meteor showers. It’s the darkest part of the night. If you wake up in that time frame, maybe step out and look at the stars for a bit.
Even though 3:00 AM till dawn is a good time frame for seeing meteors or just the night sky, it also appears to be when the spirit world is the strongest. Most people are in their deepest sleep during that time frame which would make them less aware of what’s lurking around them. But it’s not just bad spirits, it’s all spirits which means a lot of good stuff can happen in this time frame too! There are many people who practice the “Dark Arts” for the good of humanity. By using this timeframe, they could be using their skills to battle evil spirits as well.
I don’t consider myself an experienced Ghost Investigator but have done enough investigations in my life to know the afterlife is real. And yes, there are good and bad spirits, and both can be misinterpreted by the investigator. A good spirit may actually be a bad spirit trying to control the investigation and a good spirit may be tagged as a bad spirit because of things they do.
But are Spirts really real? I believe so and there is a science to it. The following information was taken from one of my earlier blogs.
According to some interpretations of quantum physics, parallel dimensions, or parallel universes, exist due to Quantum Entanglement. Every possible quantum outcome creates a new universe by splitting the universe into multiple realities whenever a quantum event occurs. So, a parallel dimension which has a direct connection to ours, could be where our spirits go after we die.
When we die, our spirit moves to the other realm, (i.e. Dimension.) But what is our spirit made of? How can it pass from one dimension to the next? Some say our spirit is an intelligent consciousness, a living being with an imprint of that person, kind of like intelligent energy containing our consciences.
If this is true, then the spirit’s energy must obey the laws of physics of our dimension and our parallel dimension to be able to exist and move back and forth. Using Newton’s Third Law, “For every action, there is an equal and opposite reaction,” maybe when we die the action of our solid body ceasing to exist creates an equal and opposite reaction of our energy source (i.e.. Soul, consciousness) to move on to a parallel dimension. Human bodies are solid carbon based with water making up around 66 percent, where spirits are high frequency electro-magnetic energy which can be detected with EMF meters.
Electromagnetic fields are part of the electromagnetic spectrum which extends from static electric and magnetic fields with low radiation to high gamma radiation which can be deadly. The human body gives off an electromagnetic field due to the electrical activity occurring in our bodies. Biological processes like nerve signals, muscle movement, even heart beats create an electromagnetic field around our body which is called a “biofield” and can be measured with an EMF meter.
So not only do EMF meters detect human bodies but also can detect a spiritual body too! Ghost investigators use them all the time in their investigations. So, for a ghost investigator to be able to use an EMF meter to detect a ghost, the ghost would have to be made up of a kind of high frequency radiation. This may be a derivative of the process from dying to becoming a spirit or one could say, a transfer of our life force like our soul.
During the “Witching Hours” it may be easier to communicate with loved ones or to summon spirits due to lower atmospheric conditions that could interfere while trying to communicate. Just looking at barometric pressures, during the daytime the sun’s heating causes air to warm thus becoming less dense. This will affect small airplane performance and definitely hot air balloons. But what is really interesting is this:
There’s a Daily Atmospheric Tide which is a global oscillation in the atmosphere with a 24-hour period caused by the constant heating of the atmosphere by our Sun.
There’s Heating and Cooling, Circadian and Semi-circadian Cycles, Geographical Influence, but the one cycle I’m interested in is, Pressure Fluctuations.
The Pressure Fluctuations daily cycle results in the pressure being at its highest around 10 AM and 10 PM, and at its lowest around 4 AM and 4 PM. So, one of the times barometric pressures is the lowest is at 4 AM, during the Witching Hours when it’s really dark and quiet. Interesting.
Could this be one reason why during the 3 AM to just sunrise, intuitive people experience a lot paranormal type phenomena when they’re trying to sleep? Like maybe they’ve heard something, felt something like a presence or seen a shadow in their room? I’m sure a lot of readers of this blog have some pretty cool stories.
So, if you get involved in Paranormal investigations, you may also get involved with the Paranormal. And if you want to get involved, maybe try getting involved during the Witching Hours, this would be the best time to practice your bravery.

Hello from San Pedro . I believe I have a portal in my apartment . I have a special needs son and I was recording him dancing and there were orbs also dancing with him .I believe they are family spirits that protect him . If you ever cover orbs , you are more than welcome to come and see if you can capture them on video . My current phone won’t pick them up , I need an upgrade . I enjoyed your article and I always wake up at 3 and hear things and wonder if it was the witching hour . So thanks for that .
An EMF meter works really well confirming spirits and inexpensive ones can be found on Amazon for under $40.
