Note: Since the original writing of this blog, I’ve received a ton of emails from disgruntled viewers who learned Alien Highway was not picked up for a second season. We were ready to go with new investigations, but Travel Channel pulled the plug. For all those who enjoyed our show and are unhappy we’re not coming back, one suggestion would be to contact Travel Channel and let them know your feelings. We were one of very few shows that actually did real-life current “boots on the ground” UFO-type investigations on camera.

One idea is to place a comment on Travel Channel’s Twitter or Facebook page; and “Thank you to all our viewers!

Original Blog:

I wasn’t looking forward to writing the possibility of this blog but, it was a great ride while it lasted. It appears we came up short with Travel Channel’s specific target audience, so the plug was pulled on an Alien Highway Season 2.

The email sent to me from Discovery Operations Talent Coordinator said, “.. we’re not bringing back Alien Highway, we’re disappointed because we love the show and hoped the genre resonated more with the current audience ..”

Travel Channel clarified with Heather Taddy saying they didn’t have the right audience for the UFO/mystery shows.

Well, it is what it is, we didn’t capture Travel Channel’s specific targeted audience.

I appreciate what Travel Channel has done for me, giving me a full season letting me bring my investigations to the public is a dream come true, and so I thank them for that.

As for the show, the overall numbers were more of a success and not a failure, and the responses I have received from viewers all over the world have confirmed that; so a BIG thank you to everyone who enjoyed watching Alien Highway, because we enjoyed doing it.

Ratings:

Our ratings weren’t too bad, we attracted a more mature audience compared to other shows, and quite frankly, I’m ok with that.

So what were our ratings and what was the age group that liked our show?

This info came from the production company:

The first episode was a great start with men 25-54, and the show opened with +15% above the Travel Channel original series average and among the best originals on Travel Wednesday nights within the past 12 months (trailing on Mysteries at the Museum and its lead in that night, UFOs: the Lost Evidence.) The episode built nicely from its lead in with women 25-54 up +9% from UFOs: The Lost Evidence with that demo.

In terms of total viewers 2+L+SD, Alien Highway abducted 588K P2+, a very nice =34% above the Travel Channel original series average in the past year and only -5% below the UFOs: The Lost Evidence lead in a stellar 95% audience retention.

The Ratings in General:

We were pretty solid in the ratings polled, with an overall average of more than a half a million. A lot of TV shows have been green-lit for another season with lower than those numbers, so they weren’t too bad.

So who was our key audience based on various ratings?

Our key demo people 25-54 were about average. We’re above average in men 25-54 by 25 percent which is awesome and also with ladies age 30 and below. Still not too bad with a wide range age group.

Out of the Top 150 Cable shows that aired on Wednesday night, we averaged 73.25 which is below the middle 75. In other words, our ratings were better than the other 76.75 shows on TV Wednesday night.

We also got some great Internet shout outs which was pretty awesome too!

List:
– July 11th, Alien Highway was listed on Wrap.com for top picks on extraterrestrial enthusiasts. “The Top 10 TV Shows That Believe in Aliens, From ‘Project Blue Book’ to ‘UFOs.”
– July 19th, Parade.com listed Alien Highway in “What to Watch” TV shows for the following week.
– July 26th, Channel Guide Magazine listed Alien Highway as “TV’s Best Bets for the following week.”

I’d like to thank all the viewers and all the wonderful emails I still receive, it told me we were on track to what the related public wanted to see. I would do it all over again even knowing we had only one season. Thank you Thank you.

Like Arnold Schwarzenegger once said,  “I’ll be back” ( Which means if any other production company reads this blog, then I’m available. ha ha )
