Cattle Mutilation/Predator Kill Comparison Pictures
Posted by zukowski on December 31st, 2009Since I’ve posted five cattle mutilation investigations on this website, I’ve had numerous emails suggesting the deaths were predator kills. So, I thought I would show a couple of comparison pictures between what we consider actual cattle mutilation cases to known predator kill photographs I found on the Internet.
Miller Mutilation Case
The center section of this animal was completely removed with the rib cage showing signs of impact trauma with no signs of predator teeth markings. What signifies this case as a cattle mutilation case besides the extreme damage done to the mid section, is the very unusual removal of the calves ears. There have been no known cases I’ve been able to locate in which there is an association between known predator or scavenger damage to this type of carnage.
Garren Mutilation Case:
What signifies this case as a cattle mutilation is the fact this animal gave birth on a Friday night and was found early Saturday afternoon in this condition. The udder was completely removed with no signs of blood or colostrum on the ground or on the hide. The new born calf was found alive and completely unharmed about 45 yards away from it’s mother laying near the placenta. There were signs of scavenger damage in the anal area from Saturday night when I examined it Sunday morning. The scavenger damage turned out to be a great comparison between an unknown damage and known damage.
Sanchez Mutilation Case:
Even though the first look at this case would make you think this was a mountain lion or a bear kill, what makes this a mutilation case is the fact its tongue had been cut out. This image shows the mouth closed before I had to pry it open to check. Also, this was the fourth calf killed within a 3 week period for this rancher. The rancher told me the third calf had half of its face removed so we tracked down its carcass but unfortunately the head was missing due to scavengers. At least we think a scavenger took the head.
Aaron Cattle Mutilation:
What makes this case a cattle mutilation is besides the udder being clean cut removed, the left side of the face was cut out down to the bone. When you read this case on this website you’ll find the blood markings on the ground to the left were the result of me flipping the animal over for a better look but even more fantastic is the EMF readings I picked up at this unusual damaged area.
The following pictures are images of known predator kills I found on the Internet. I use images like these along with eye witness reports for comparisons. ( Disclaimer, some of these images are very disturbing! )
Known coyote kill. Notice the pulling of the carcass. This is very typical to scavenger eating.
Image courtesy of ( bwps.org ) Notice the amount of blood from a fresh kill. Cattle mutilation cases show no signs of blood staining on the hide or on the ground near the dead animal.
Image courtesy of ( farm4staticflickr.com ). Notice the pulling of the skin and the blood staining on the ground. Also typical claw markings on the hide.
Image courtesy of ( terrierman.com ). Mountain lions take their prey down from the back. You’ll find claw marks and bite marks on the animal depicting a typical mountain lion kill.
Image courtesy of ( susty.com ). I hope we don’t have to worry about this predator, but here’s an example of a typical lion kill showing animal carnage. Notice the face of the kill, most of the body is gone but the face is still intact. Not like one of my mutilation cases where the face appeared cored out.
Human ritual mutilation I believe from Nigeria. I use this picture to show how much blood is expelled from a cow due to antemortem cutting.
Conclusion:
I did find one case about a wolf killing a young cow roughly 1.5 years of age out of Catron County, New Mexico. The IFT investigated the cow carcass and easily noticed the wolf’s bite marks on the back side and the nose area. Even though the actual wounds could not and did not cause the death, the IFT suggested the cow had died due to the stress of the chase.
Reports like this are what I research and use as a comparison analysis against potential cattle mutilation cases I investigate. I also look for pictures of known animal kills and have seen many in my life which I also use for comparison. The best knowledge I receive about known and natural cattle deaths are directly from the ranchers themselves. It’s really insulting to the ranchers when I get comments from people who think they are more knowledgeable than the ranchers themselves because they may have seen an Animal Planet special or something on the Discovery Channel. Of Course these comments also insult all the law enforcement officials who have investigated these events since at least 1967 here in Colorado.
Typical cattle mutilation cases seem to show the animal was cut, carved, and drained of blood at a different location from where the animal is found. No traces of a traumatic killing are seen, no traces of bite or claw marks, no traces of predator evidence and no trace of the mutilated animal struggling to survive. Struggling to survive is very important and most skeptics and debunkers dance around this very important lack of evidence. Think about walking up to an automobile which has been in a crash and finding no evidence of metal or glass fragments on the pavement including tire markings of the vehicle in question or the vehicle which caused the collision. Well, that’s what we investigators have to deal with- the perfect crime. So, presume that who or what has been doing these acts, has been doing it at will, since at least 1967 here in Colorado. If it is a predator, then it’s a predator that ranchers and law enforcement officials are completely un-aware of and have no known way of combating it.
I hope the cattle mutilation readers of my website will understand the reality of these situations and remember these cases are actual criminal acts in this country. Also, the perpetrator is very dangerous with no known motive and leaving no obvious evidence to help law enforcement work the case. I know the “unknown perpetrator” is leaving evidence and it is obviously evidence we are not accustomed to seeing. We need to be very aggressive and creative using new techniques and stratagies while working these cases. My hopes are that the readers of this website will also be able to shed some insight into cracking these cases. And yes, I do laugh at the occasional smart ass remarks but as a whole, the comments coming to me are very intelligent and well thought out, so thank you and keep up the good work.

Aaron Cattle Mutilation Investigation 12/12/09
Posted by zukowski on December 13th, 2009This is my fifth cattle mutilation investigation for 2009.
IMPORTANT NOTE! Due to the amount of press coverage on the Sanchez mutilation which occurred one month earlier, the rancher requested that his name not be used in any publication by me or my team. If the rancher’s name appears in the media any time soon, it will be the result of the rancher’s wishes or the previous investigator. Therefore this investigation will be referred to the “Aaron Mutilation”, as requested by the rancher.
On Thursday December 10th I was contacted by a rancher in the town of San Luis, Colorado about a possible cow mutilation in the area which occurred earlier in the week. After contacting the rancher in question, I was told he had contacted another investigator from the area and scheduled a meeting with him on the morning of Friday December 11th. I then asked the rancher if I could see the animal the morning of Saturday December 12th to conduct my own investigation. He agreed.
Approximately 9:30am Saturday December 12th, my team including; my son Chuck who is on leave from Afghanistan, Matt Morgan and Trina Bivens from Colorado Springs, met the rancher at his house and was taken to the mutilation site. The following are the notes from the investigation.
This was the location the animal was found. It was then moved previously by the rancher to our investigation location.
Overview:
Mutilation location, San Luis, Colorado.
40 plus year experienced rancher, third year on this ranch.
Ranch has an average 30 cattle.
Animal mutilation occurred some time Monday, 12/07/09.
Rancher found cow on Tuesday, 12/08/09.
Rancher never experienced previous mutilation on property.
Cow calved 2008.
Calf is alive and doing fine.
Cow was found laying on its left side approximately 90 yards from the rest of herd.
Rancher then moved animal estimated quarter of a mile from mutilated location, to ranch dump site away from herd grazing area.
Movement method was dragging left side of animal behind pick-up truck using a chain connected to front legs. Marks were noted.
Statistics:
Cow was Limousine.
Cow was not insured. Rancher told me he will now look into insuring his other cattle.
Cow was 4 years old.
Cow was estimated 900 pounds.
Length, nose to hind end, 95”.
Length, head nose to middle of neck, 28”.
Length, crown to bottom of jaw, 18”.
Length, shoulder to hoof, 52”.
Girth width measured from top, 39”.
Carcass appeared slightly bloated.
No special diet, just wild grass eaten.
Wounds:
Udder area was completely removed.
Mouth open and tongue removed, small amount of dried blood was noticed near inside of mouth.
Left side of face was removed, approximately 48 square inches of flesh missing. The blood markings on the snow to the left of the wound is from me rolling the animal over to get a better look at it.
Right eye ball was missing and blood was present around socket, appears to be bird damage.
No apparent bone scoring marks on open wound in face.
Note: Previous investigator from 12/11/09 had pried mouth open to view inside of mouth. Mouth was closed when rancher initially found it.
Scavenger damage in anal area, not known if unusual damage was initially there.
Unusual straight laceration on underside of belly, 18”. This could have been caused by previous investigator.
Small 1 inch square sample wounds were noticed which were caused by previous day’s investigation.
Area Conditions:
Snow was present in area at time of finding mutilation; some snow had melted by investigation time.
At time of death, weather was sub zero conditions with negative wind chill.
No footprints, tire wheel markings were found initially by rancher.
No blood pooling was seen around animal by rancher.
No scavenger evidence was seen near animal by rancher.
Investigation:
Day of investigation, temperature estimated 30 to 35 degrees plus wind chill.
Traces of blood were seen on animal near massive trauma areas due to transportation of animal by rancher.
No radiation detected.
Magnetic wand sweep did not detect any metallic substances on body.
No compass movement observed during body sweep.
Hand and eye sweep of animal’s hide looking for any unusual bumping, gouging, or marks. One mark was found, an unusual straight laceration mentioned above.
EMF meter measured slight electro magnetic field around body.
Very unusual high EMF meter movement occurred when passing over the base of the right ear near the face wound. Using an AlphaLab Trifield EMF Meter which measures electric field and magnetic field, the meter was measuring over 100 microteslas! The static magnetic field of the earth is about 50 microtesla, so the measurement I observed was more than double that of the earth! I repeated this experiment multiple times while resetting the meter to insure validity of test, and I still achieved the same measurements. So I asked the rancher if he tags the ears of his cattle, and he said he does not. Also no visual signs of anything metallic was near the ear area or open wound.
Flesh sample was taken along edge of facial wound.
Rancher states no mountain lions in area, has not seen one.
Rancher states no wolves seen in area.
Cows graze on large pasture estimated 4 miles from ranch house.
Elevation of pasture 8460 feet.
Police report filed with the Costilla County Sheriff’s office.
No helicopters were seen.
No Military vehicles of any sort were detected by rancher.
No strange noises were heard.
No strange smells were detected.
My Sony Night Shot model TRV-130 stopped functioning due to premature battery drain.
No cellular coverage in immediate area.
Unresponsive portable GPS and a digital camera reset were experience at mutilation site.
Conclusion:
This animal was investigated twice. Once on Friday morning Dec. 11th by an unknown local investigator, and then again by me and my team on Saturday morning Dec. 12th. I purposely waited until Saturday so as not to impede on the other person’s investigation.
Because this animal was moved from its original mutilation site, I was unable to do a complete investigation. Samples were taken and currently on ice awaiting response from my contact at CSU to determine next plan of action.
This mutilation mimicked two previous investigations I’ve done this year except for the massive trauma to the facial area. One very unique and phenomenal measurement I saw included using an EMF meter checking for an Electro Magnetic Field. My meter’s needle literally pegged to full maximum when waiving it over the open face wound from the base of the lower ear. I have never experience this type of meter behavior before and need to research this phenomenon. One “after thought” regret was not having the proper arm length gloves to enable me to check the internal facial cavity for any type of foreign object which could have caused the extreme meter movement. Either way this phenomenon needs to be addressed. One thought includes stories in which alien abductees who had implants removed left a residual electro magnetic reading. I’m not saying this animal was mutilated by aliens; I’m just trying to reason this part of the investigation.
My initial thought was, this mutilation could have been caused by a copy-cat human due to the recent news of the Sanchez mutilation in the area. I never suspected the rancher or his family or their story. But after completion our investigation that theory became implausible. Most investigators don’t sweep with an EMF meter and would have never experienced the phenomenon I encountered near the facial wound.

Duran Cattle Mutilation March 15, 2009
Posted by zukowski on December 9th, 2009Summary:
Rancher Duran from Westin Colorado discovered his 26 year old cow dead under unusual circumstances two days after he had noticed it was missing. The last day he had seen the animal was on Friday March 6th, then on Sunday March 8th, he spotted the animal laying on its left side near the Purgatoire river bank. Upon examining his animal he noticed the vaginal area and the udders had been mysteriously removed. The removed areas were circular cuts showing no signs of blood or physical trauma. The cuts he noticed seemed to be laser cut and sealed at the same time. Mike had a similar experience back in 1995 when he lost a cow to the similar circumstances. The udders had been removed in a familiar faction.
This image shows me taking radiation readings. (Yeah I know old Geiger counter but it works.) We also took electro-magnetic readings for comparison analysis for future cattle mutilations. (photo by Jason Cordova)
This image shows me and Jason Cordova doing the necessary measurements for the investigation. The noticeable hole in the center of the cow was from the previous night’s scavengers and not part of the unusual carvings.
Measurements were also taken from the unknown cut areas. This particular animal had been dead for a few days so the cavity was larger due to the time duration from death to investigation.
Alejandro Rojas is shown here taking hair samples. Not shown is Stace Tussel who was responsible for documenting the investigation and samples.
This square cut is a result of one of my samples taken for lab analysis.
Investigation:
Criminal Case number was assigned by local Deputy.
Estimated worth of cow, $600.00
Estimated age of cow, 28 years.
Oldest cow in herd had new calf roughly 3 months old.
Cow appeared to be lying on its left side, partially in stream near bank est. 8 to 12 inches deep.
Reproduction organ removed with anal area still intact.
Udder removed.
Wounds appeared to be circular in fashion with noticeable cauterizing-like on edges of wound, no noticeable blood.
No noticeable blood pooling except around animal lying in water, possibly due to saturation.
Closest cow foot prints to deceased animal estimated 4 feet away towards the East.
No noticeable vehicle tire prints of any model or size, no indication a vehicle was nearby.
Cow appeared slightly bloated.
Tongue and eyes were still present.
EMF readings: 4 – 8 microteslas.
Flies were present but the laying of their eggs “larva” was not present.
Samples:
Note: Animal was lying on its left side in stream, right side open to air.
Jar 1 : Upper right circular section from vaginal area
Jar 2 : Right rear upper hip where unusual mud was noticed.
Jar 3 : Strip cut from right rear leg where unusual string markings were seen by investigative team and rancher.

Response to Sanchez/Miller Mutilation Blog Comments 11/26/09
Posted by zukowski on November 27th, 2009This is my response to some comments made on the Sanchez and Miller Cattle mutilation cases. First I welcome all comments and welcome any advise for future investigations. Second, I want to touch on a couple of things. I am in contact with the Colorado State University Veterinary Lab and will supply samples per their recommendations. The Sanchez mutilation was too destroyed to achieve or perform the lab analysis they would like to perform. For one, they would like to see the organs of the animal to try to determine the cause of death, and two, I’m asking what could be achieved by just taking the head? But when, what we call “The Prime Case” occurs, then you’ll see some fantastic work done by the lab. Either a representative from the lab will accompany me to the location for an on-site necropsy, or I’ll be putting a 1400 pound animal on a flat bed trailer, packing it with ice, then personally delivering it to the University. This isn’t an easy task, I’ll have to winch the animal and pull it on the trailer without damaging it too much. So I’m hoping for an on-site necropsy. Also, If all I can do is take samples, then we are discussing what type of samples to take and how to preserve them properly.
Note: I welcome all comments on what type of samples to take, but at this time I will only be taking samples which this lab will be able to use. And “no” I will not be storing cow parts in my garage, this is a bio-hazard scenario, because if the animal died of a virus, then I just put my family’s health at risk. So the answer is “No” to those of you who suggest I need to buy a freezer to store cow parts for any type of future lab work. And no, I will not ship any samples to you. Oh, and no DNA work will be done at this time.
I am also working with a soil analysis lab for future research on dirt samples I take. I will only take dirt samples per their recommendation. The lab will look for any differences between a “controlled sample” and a sample taken near the calf. I will not ask them to look for specifics, they will look for differences. This will include minerals, PH, and certain toxin’s to name a few. They do this for the BLM and are very professional so “no”, I will not release their company name per their request. If someone questions their analysis, then that someone can take what ever soil is left they didn’t use and run their own analysis at their own expense.
Bottom Line? The labs will tell me what type of samples they want to analyze which is with-in their capability. Then the results will be released on this website. What I’m striving for is a complete non-biased approach to companies in which I should get non-biased results. This worked for me with Roswell debris I had analyzed which yielded an aluminum/silicon artifact found on a 2002 dig. I will be lecturing about this at the 2010 UFO Congress.
And now for answers to specific comments.
Jack Wiseheimer:
Thank you for your comments. Too long to reierate here, but very interesting.
Tim:
I usually refrain from saying a cattle mutilation is alien related, but you are absolutely correct, the animal’s damage could be related to a necropsy. So we both agree it doesn’t appear to be predator damage. That is a significant step in the another direction.
Thank you for your comments.
Linda Howe:
At this time what I posted were basically my field notes. I’m trying to get the deputy’s notes, if I succeed in getting them, I’ll send you a copy.
Thank you.
Bill Fitzhugh:
At this time I’m trying to get both deputy’s reports from the Sanchez mutilation, one from the third and one from the fourth. If I get them and they give me approval, I’ll post them. The lab did look for laser cuts on the Miller and Garren mutilation and did not see burned tissue or hair under a microscope. The Sanchez mutilation carcass was too destroyed to get a clean sample for lab analysis.
Thank you for your comments
Staceyflnative:
I’m sorry to hear about your animal losses, and you’re right, this is more common than people realize.
Thank you
Aubs:
Yeah my thoughts rigor mortis was the cause of the mouth being hard to pry open. Which means the mouth was closed when the animal died? So was the tongue removed while the calf was alive or just after it died? If you look at the cow picture on the Garren mutilation post, you’ll see the tongue hanging out. This is usually the case, but if the tongue can’t be seen, then it’s time to pry the mouth open.
Thank you for your comment
Steve Bremmer:
If I give the impression aliens are doing this, I apologize. The media usually puts that tag on me. The rancher did see strange lights a couple of months before the mutilation, but as an investigator I record any strange anomaly. I personally don’t know who or what is doing this and am looking for any type of evidence that will point me in an unfamiliar direction. And you’re right about “faith”, there are cattle mutilation investigators who just say its alien, and UFO investigators who don’t know much about the night sky and make the wrong assumptions too quick.
Thank you for your comment.
ABC:
Ok abc, I’ll find the veterinarian and you can get ABC to pay for an on-site necropsy. It’s not cheap and this is all out-of-pocket. Hopefully I answered your comments at the beginning of this blog.
Oh and you’re last remark is very typical of media comments, we investigators call this, “The Giggle Factor”.
Thank you for your comments.
John Notmylastname:
First I love your last name. heh heh.. Absolutely correct in your assumptions. Remember this has been going on since 1967 and not only in Colorado. I interviewed a rancher two years ago in Missouri who had cattle mutilations and saw dear mutilation too! So it’s not just the cows.
Thank you for your comment.
Frank Healy:
Yeah Frank, microscopic analysis was performed on two of my previous mutilations, the Miller and the Garren. No hair stems appeared to be burned, and the Colorado State University would not commit to stating they were surgical cut. I can’t blame them, they are very scientific and very careful what they print. Both the Miller and Sanchez calf bones appeared to be broken due to impact, and I am talking with the lab to see if there is a way to confirm this. It may boil down to doing a test case, sorta like Myth Busters.
Thank you for your comment.
Kimclift rn
Here’s something scary. Statistics show 2,300 Americans are reported missing every day, including both adults and children. Only a tiny fraction are stereotypical abductions or kidnappings by a stranger. I believe the Federal Government said about 850 thousand missing person cases were reported in 2001. About 50,000 were juveniles (under 18). Makes you wonder about Alien Abduction scenarios going bad.
Thank you for your comment.
Daryl Cook:
Hey was she cute?
Thanks for the comment.
Howatd:
Yeah we’re waiting for a prime mutilation case to perform this lab test.
Thank you for your comment.
Fred Brenhardt:
Yeah I feel your frustration. That’s why I’m attacking this a little differently. If you have any wild and crazy ideas, please help me out. So far no one has “cracked” this.
Thank you for your comments.
Good Old Mr. Wilson
Hey Mr. Wilson! No one has been found or convicted for doing cattle mutilations since the first reported case in 1967 in the San Luis Valley. Ranchers have told me they will shoot first then answer questions later if they see someone killing their cows. As for Red Neck Hicks, I’m friends with people who other people call “Hicks”, and there’s no reason for them to do this. If they did, then they would be, “Red Neck Genus’s” because no law enforcement agency has cracked this. Talk about a “Cold Case”. This is the coldest.
Thank you for your comments.
Sam man:
So you are an expert on mountain lions? Work for the Park Service? Is your degree in Zoology? I’m not “raggin” on you, and I’m sure most cattle deaths are animal related in which you are correct. What we look for, are the cases which don’t fit the “foot-print” for a predator kill. Part of my investigation is working with the ranchers looking for predator signs, including blood on the soil, carcass remains and animal prints. I always ask the rancher and their neighbors what type of predators they know of in the area. And you can ask any cattle rancher, they know their land and what type of predators usually work their property. It’s when the rancher doesn’t know and doesn’t see the signs of a normal predator kill that causes them to call the local authorities and call it an unknown kill. I’ve talked with Brand Inspectors who are puzzled too! Remember this is their job and they know it very well and I have allot of respect for them. I’ve worked security at rodeos and I have to agree, there is no one tougher than the American Cowboy, or Rancher. And when they get scared, then that scares me.
Thanks for your comment.
Ford:
Yeah this is a tough one.
Thanks for your comment.
Kerri:
Hey Kerri, I follow Steven Greer and he just may be right then again he just may be wrong. I actually would feel more comfortable if I knew it was aliens then if it was a “Shadow Government”. Steven lectures on very scary scenarios in which he’s done his home work on and we should at least listen to him. Where I different from Steven is, “To know how an alien thinks, one has to be an alien”. We have no idea what they’re thinking, until they come out and tell us themselves.
Thank you for your comment.

Sanchez Cattle Mutilation 11/17/09
Posted by zukowski on November 22nd, 2009San Luis, Colorado
On November 16th I received a phone call from Alejandro Rojas from Openminds.tv, Tempe, Arizona. He informed me that there was a cattle mutilation here in Colorado. He learned this from rancher Sanchez’s daughter who contacted him asking for help. I then contacted the rancher and made arrangements to go to his ranch the next day to investigate this unusual animal death. The following is my investigation.
This mutilation occurred in the city of San Luis, Costilla County Colorado. San Luis is the oldest city in Colorado, established in 1851 and the 2000 census stated the population was 739. This area is not new to cattle mutilations, the first documented case was the famous “Lady” (aka. Snippy) the horse. This unusual death affected an Appaloosa outside of Alamosa on the King Ranch in which the animal was found with very strange laser-like cuts with no presence of blood pooling. Rancher Sanchez has experienced passed cattle mutilations, the last one back in 2006.
This animal also had very strange laser-like cut marks common to the other mutilations in the area, but Sanchez’s latest mutilations have taken a very dramatic turn from what he’s witnessed before. Rather than the laser-like cutting on adult animals, the attacks are now on calves. And not one, but he’s lost four within 3 weeks. All four were not just merely mutilated but basically destroyed. As if a semi-truck at hit in at 80mph. The following are my notes from this investigation.
Calf Statistics:
- Rancher found calf at 5:00pm on 11/16/09
- Calf was Hereford Limousine Steer
- Calf is 4-5 months old
- Calf weight is unknown, estimated over 200 lbs.
- Calf was found laying head facing 330 degrees.
- Calf’s twisted body from end to end was 4 foot 6 inches.
- Calf’s twisted body mid section 19 inches.
- Calf’s left rear leg from knee bend to hoof was 1 foot 6 inches.

Calf Conditions:
- Tail of animal was present and appeared normal.
- Right eye ball was missing and blood was present around socket, appears to be bird scavenger damage.
- Left eye ball appeared intact tucked away from the scavengers.
- Blood was present around nostrils but appeared to be more of a fluid oozing.
- Chest cavity was completely cored out which was the condition the rancher had initially found.
- No animal remains were seen near the animal or near the empty chest cavity.
- No blood pooling was seen on the foliage near the animal.
- No apparent blood was seen on animal’s skin near the massive trauma area.
- Some apparent teeth markings were seen on the rib cage but not on every rib. Appears scavengers may have gnawed on animal the night before my investigation.
- No special diet, just wild grass eaten.
- Salt was given to cows last winter, but not yet for this winter.
Investigation:
- Patchy snow was present in immediate area at time of finding mutilation; most snow had melted away by investigation time.
- Quick immediate land survey looking for any unusual signs. (ie. Out of place looking) None found.
- No human footprints, tire wheel markings were found initially by rancher or by me.
- No radiation detected on Geiger counter.
- EMF meter measured slight electro magnetic field with some unusual spiking about 15 microteslas near the animal’s head during sweep.
- No flesh samples were taken due to condition of animal and probable cause of scavenger contamination was present.
- Two samples of rib bones were taken to perform a closer examination. Since scavenger damage was present no direct conclusions could be made from the initial condition of the bones when the rancher found the animal.
- Mouth was closed tight and had to be pried open to reveal the inside. I noticed the tongue had been cut off over an inch behind lower teeth. Tongue incision was too far back in mouth to be caused by biting, and appeared to be a straight cut. Mouth was very hard to pry open to see tongue; I had to use a small archeology tool for prying.
- Rancher states no mountain lions in area, has not seen one.
- Wolf was spotted in August near Rancher’s house 6 miles away from cow pasture where calf was found.
- Cows graze on 180 acre pasture.
- Elevation of pasture 8760 feet.
- Police report filed 11/16/09 with the Costilla County Sheriff’s office.
- 4 calves in total were mutilated within the past 3 weeks and were found in the general area within 100 yards.
- First two were found on October 25.
- Third calf was found November 9th, and police report was filed.
- Fourth calf (this investigation) was found November 16th and police report was filed.
- All four calves were found in the similar condition like this investigation, only difference was third calf also had laser like cut sectioning off the right side of face. (Will try to locate pictures if available from the Sheriff’s office) Typical mutilation cutting. Third calves skeletal remains were located but the head was missing from spine, rancher thought that unusual.
Other:
- No helicopters were seen.
- No Military vehicles of any sort were detected by rancher.
- No strange noises were ever heard.
- No strange smells were ever detected.
- Rancher Manuel did notice strange lights over a hill behind his house in the Eastern direction from July to August 2009. A bright light appeared at 4:00am then slowly drifted in the direction of his pasture within an hour and had disappeared by 5:00am. The distance of the light drift appeared to be a couple of miles. This sighting lasted about a month time frame.
- Other than the lights seen in August, all surroundings appeared normal all the time.
- Rancher is so distraught about losing 4 calves within a 3 week period, that he is taking the rest of his calves to auction Wednesday November 18th and selling them in fear of possibly losing more calves.
- My Sony Night Shot model TRV-87 stopped functioning towards end of this investigation. Battery was still 30% at that time. Unit refuses to play investigation tape, but tape can be seen on one of my other cameras. Tape appears fine, Camera does not. Heh heh it’s always the electronics.
- No cellular coverage in immediate area.
- Interesting note, on the way back from San Luis my BlackBerry Storm was indicating a fluctuation between detecting Mountain Standard Time and Pacific Standard Time. The clock kept shifting back and forth by an hour.
Summary:
The calf appeared to be similar to the Miller Cattle Mutilation case I investigated back in March of 2009. The main differences are the Miller calf was missing both ears, and the Sanchez calf was missing its tongue. Every other aspect of the mutilated animals appears to be the same. I will do a GPS comparison between the Miller and Sanchez cases looking for possible similarities.
It appears certain cattle mutilations have graduated from the known laser-like cut marks to complete animal obliteration. All four calves mutilated on this ranch had similar physical attributes. The center section was missing, the rib cage was cored out, and no blood was present on the ground near the animal or on its hide. The calf I investigated was missing its tongue, unfortunately I was unable to see the other three to compare. We did find the remains from the third calf, but the head was missing and I was unable to further my investigation.
Note:
Colorado Springs KOAA news reporter Andy Koen was present to document my investigation.

2012 The Movie: Movie Fact or Movie Fiction
Posted by zukowski on November 17th, 2009What can I say about this movie? Not much. As for action packed with over and over and over again cliff hangers, it definitely keeps you on the edge of your seat. As for repeated situations our concerned key players get themselves into, it’s not diculous, but ridiculous. As you root for your favorite characters while they consistently maneuver around Mother Nature’s disastrous obstacles; You tend to forget about the little things in life, like the hundreds of thousands of people in the background going through unmentionable agonizing deaths. Oh the humanity of it all, someone’s grandparents, parents or children getting ripped apart through explosions, or falling great distances to their deaths, or being swallowed up by exaggerated fiery explosions or ultimately suffocating to death while drowning. But you don’t seem to mind, hey, you’re cheering for a dysfunctional family not only trying to save their own lives but trying to save their dysfunctional relationships too! Give me a break. How shallow the movie industry has become writing crap like this, and unfortunately yes, how shallow I’ve become spending money to watch it. And can you believe what they’re charging for large soft drinks now? geeesh. Sure you can sneak in candy and avoid a $4.00 a box charge, but try sneaking in a large soft drink. They can spot that super-sized bulge in your pants a mile away. But let’s forget that ugly picture for a moment and focus on the movie’s premise, “The world comes to an end in 2012.” First let’s look at the movie’s semi-realistic plot then we’ll jump into some information about the Mayan culture and why some think this could actually happen.
The Plot:
In 2009 the sun emits a massive solar flare which causes the Earth’s liquid core temperature to start increasing rapidly. This rapid increase of temperature is due to “Neutrinos” caused by a coronal mass ejection traveling from the Sun through the solar wind. Neutrinos are elementary particles that travel at the speed of light and are electrically neutral. These neutral particles can pass through ordinary matter undisturbed and are difficult to detect. Thus the ordinary citizens of the planet Earth wouldn’t know the event ever happened. Now the Earth has an outer silicate solid crust, a mantle, a liquid outer core and a solid inner core. The Neutrinos react with the liquid outer core which causes the Earths tectonic plates to shift. This shifting was first realized by Alfred Lothar Wegener’s theory proposed in 1915. He hypothesized that the continents were slowly drifting around the Earth over time, but was unable to show a model to demonstrate his theory. Later in the 1950s numerous discoveries inked his theory thus creating evidence of continental drift. So now after the solar flare takes place, a period of three years is needed for the liquid core to be altered and cause a massive continental drift. This three year time period peaks “you guessed it” on Dec 21st 2012. This is also the date the Mayan’s next Long Count Calendar begins.
Disclaimer: I don’t claim to be a specialist on Mayan theology let alone an expert on the 2012 scenario, so if I’m way off base with this please help out in the comments section. If I’m slightly off base also comment, and if I’m close enough, then roll with the flow.
According to information off of various Internet sites and books, we are currently living in the fourth Mayan world. The previous world ended on a Mayan long count calendar date of 12.19.19.17.19. Another 12.19.19.17.19 will occur on December 20, 2012, followed by the start of the next date, 13.0.0.0.0, on December 21, 2012.
From what I’ve read, the Mayan calendar is actually a multitude of other calendars used together. Two common calendars which were used were the Tzolk’in consisting of 260 days and the Haab which has 365 days. The use of both these calendars created a 52 year cycle and is referred as “The Calendar Round.” Another calendar used to follow longer periods of time is called, “The Long Count”. This particular calendar was used to track dates relative to each other on somewhat of a linear scale. This calendar also uses a type of numeric decimal system to record future dates. One example for the Mayan date for December 21st 2012 is [13.0.0.0.0.] The long count calendar cycle was also referred to as the “Great Cycle” and lasts for 5,125.36 years. Researchers in the field of Mayan time analysis say based on our current Gregorian calendar system, the starting date for the current long count cycle was August 11th, 3,114 B.C. Thus the difference between the Great Cycle date and the starting date for the next long count puts us within the December 21st 2012 date.
Did the Mayans also predict the Galactic Equinox where the sun aligns with the center of our galaxy? And does this date also fall on that dreaded 2012 date?
Well some say the Mayans were able to calculate the exact duration of a year to a thousandth of a decimal point, and much better than the Greeks did. Researchers also say the Mayans were able to predict every solar and lunar eclipse up until modern times. Depending on which Mayan researcher you read about, they say the Mayans were able to predict the exact date in which there will be a very close conjunction of the Winter Solstice Sun with the crossing point of the Galactic Equator (Equator of the Milky Way) and the ecliptic. (Path of our Sun). This event the Mayans referred to as the Sacred Tree and will occur on December 21st, 2012 A.D. or 13.0.0.0.0 the beginning of their next Long Count calendar.
There is also concern an alignment of inner planets within our solar system will also fall within that time frame. Well, referring to a Sky and Telescope Sky Chart, these are the planet alignments I found for December 20th and 21st 2012.
Dec 20th 2012 7:00am: Saturn, Venus, and Mercury in our South East horizon.
Dec 20th 2012 5:00pm: Mars, Moon, and Jupiter in our North East horizon.
Dec 21st 2012 7:00am: Mercury, Venus, and Saturn in our South East horizon.
Dec. 21st 2012 5:00pm: Mars, Moon, and Jupiter in our North East horizon.
All these alignments were referenced as seen from Colorado on those respective dates.
There is also concern about what our Sun will do if there is a Galactic Equinox along with inner planet alignments. Remember it was a solar flare which caused the demise of our planet in the movie.
Well some researchers say the end of the Great Cycle is also the culmination of a series of long-term sunspot cycles which will flip our planet’s magnetic field causing earthquakes and flooding. One large coronal mass ejection could flip an already weak magnetic field we are currently experiencing causing our magnetic poles to shift. The National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration – US Department of Commerce, predicts our current 11 year cycle of solar storms will peak in late 2011 or mid 2012.
Segment from the NOAA website:
During an active solar period, violent eruptions occur more often on the Sun. Solar flares and vast explosions, known as coronal mass ejections, shoot energetic photons and highly charged matter toward Earth, jolting the planet’s ionosphere and geomagnetic field, potentially affecting power grids, critical military and airline communications, satellites, Global Positioning System signals, and even threatening astronauts with harmful radiation. These same storms illuminate night skies with brilliant sheets of red and green known as auroras, or the northern or southern lights.
Solar cycle intensity is measured in maximum number of sunspots – dark blotches on the Sun that mark areas of heightened magnetic activity. The more sunspots there are, the more likely it is that major solar storms will occur.
So based on what we know about Mayan predictions, about the Galactic Equinox, about inner planet alignment and solar activity, was the movie 2012 Movie Fact, or Movie Fiction? Well all I can say is, “Run for Africa! Do it now!” Just kidding… ( but ) Magnetic Pole shifting was theorized by Charles Hapgood in his book, “The Earth’s Shifting Crust (1958)”. Albert Einstein actually wrote the forward for that book. Hapgood speculated the forces that caused shifts in the crust must be located below the surface possible within the liquid core. Hapgood also argued that each shift took roughly 5000 years, followed by 20,000 to 30,000 year periods with no polar movement. Also the area of movement never covered more than 40 degrees. Some speculate that the next shift falls on December 21st 2012.
So once again, was the movie 2012 Movie Fact, or Movie Fiction? I guess it all depends on who you talk with. I would like to think I’ll be celebrating Christmas at home on 2012 worrying more about my Christmas lights working (which are way-cool) than worrying about the end of our planet. We should actually be more concerned about small asteroids traveling between our planet and our moon which happen quite frequently. At least two this year as far as I know. But the 2012 scenario will still be debated from now till December 2012, and if you’re like me, you’ll just sit back listen to all the arguments, read all the data, then still plan on celebrating a 2012 holiday season. How about some Egg Nog with Rum?

The Fourth Kind “Movie Fact or Movie Hoax”
Posted by zukowski on November 11th, 2009“The Fourth Kind” was written and directed by Olatunde Osunsanmi and is his first major film project. The film was shot in Bulgaria, Alaska, and Los Angeles, California on a very modest budget. Trailers from the movie and its marketing department claim it’s a re-enactment of actual abduction cases which occurred in Nome, Alaska. The film also boasts having real documented file footage taped by the investigator. Starring Milla Jovoich who is a 34 year old Ukrainian born actress, supermodel and fashion designer, she portrays a Nome, Alaska therapist who is involved in aggressive alien abduction investigations.
The term “Fourth Kind” originated as a UFO classification system derived by J Allen Hynek in the early 1970’s.
Close Encounters of the First Kind: Basic UFO sighting pertaining to unknown craft or lights.
Close Encounters of the Second Kind: A UFO sighting which leaves some form of physical evidence.
Close Encounter of the Third Kind: “The Movie” Just kidding, usually beings are observed.
Close Encounter of the Fourth Kind: Humans abducted by aliens.
Close Encounter of the Fifth Kind: Coined by Dr. Steven Greer includes bilateral contact.
Close Encounters of the Sixth Kind: This usually includes alien contact resulting in injury or death.
Close Encounter of the Seventh Kind: This encounter results in the creation of hybrids.
Close Encounter of the Eighth Kind: Coined by me, is the ultimate sacrifice, marriage with an alien. I’m sure some of the readers actually believe they’ve experienced this one.
In September 2009, an investigation by the Anchorage Daily News examined the validity of the films claims including its relation to actual disappearances which occurred near Nome. Their investigation found no specific alien type events to back up the claims in the movie. The missing individuals recorded near Nome were a result of having a high rate of alcoholism combined with a harsh landscape environment.
Note: Upon writing this blog I went to the Anchorage Daily News website to retrieve this particular article and its web site location was empty. Maybe because of the amount of possible downloads to view it, or maybe something else. Only the Daily News knows for sure.
The movie claims Nome Alaska therapist Dr. Abigail Tyler was involved in a very intense alien abduction investigation in which she and her children were also abducted. The abductions were so aggressive that it caused one of the abductees she was examining to commit murder suicide and another to physically break his back bone after going through hypnotherapy. The film also used split screen techniques to show the actress acting out specific situations alongside supposed documented footage portraying Dr. Tyler. The movie also showed a police cam video of an abduction taking place. So, is this film portraying an actual alien abduction investigation, or is this film just a Hollywood hoax?
Well let’s look at some issues:
- No bio can be located (at this time) on Dr. Abigail Tyler or info on her residence in Nome, Alaska.
- Nome, Alaska UFO investigations are scarce, and aggressive alien abductions probably would have been reported or leaked to accredited investigators somewhere in Alaska or Russia, “If they could see that country from their back door.”
- The document file footage portrayed in the movie appeared cheesy looking, purposely manipulated, and nothing like any file footage me or other investigators had seen on previous investigations.
- If a police patrol car cam had filmed a possible alien abduction, chances are the FBI would have acquired the film footage and it wouldn’t be available to any unknown film maker.
- The FBI did investigate missing persons in the area surrounding Nome and attributed those cases to the harsh environment and nothing unusual.
- Consulting other UFO investigators and researchers, we have never heard of Dr. Abigail Tyler or her investigations from Nome. We’ve also have never heard of any stream of abduction cases coming from that state.
So, in conclusion based on conversations and emails with other investigators, the film is nothing more than a Hollywood hoax. The marketing team lied to the general public making false claims just to pad their pocket books. As for the actresses and actors, well, they were doing what they do best, act. If anyone disputes this blog saying the movie is factual, then put up or shut up, let’s see your evidence backing up your claims. Now, obviously I’m not familiar with every investigation ever done or their locations, so I rely heavily on other investigators and researchers for help. All my contacts came up with the same conclusion, “Hoax”. Now on the lighter side, I enjoyed the movie and the way it played out. There were intense segments all through the film which had me on the edge of my seat.
So.. as a UFO investigator and a “not-so” film critic, I give this film, “3 stars, 1 moon, and a can of Spam”.

Guest Post: Response to James Carrion's Post
Posted by zukowski on November 7th, 2009Rick Nelson
Regarding: James Carrion’s public web posts September 2009 on specific items regarding Stan Romanek’s experiences.
I am compelled to write this letter for a number of reasons. First, and most of all, because it directly affects what I have come to realize is the most important issue in human history. Secondly because I’m sick and tired of partial truths, spin doctors, and irresponsible acts by government agencies, big economic interests and individuals that stand in the way of the opportunity for the world to discover and begin to understand the UFO/ extraterrestrial reality.
I am founder of the Paranormal Research Forum based in Denver, “The nation’s largest monthly gathering on any paranormal matters”. My first UFO investigations began in 1987 and I have now devoted my life to become more aware of such matters. I have also had the honor and privilege of being the lead investigator on the Stan Romanek UFO/Extraterrestrial experiences in recent years. I, along with dozens of other credible individuals, have witnessed many events associated with Mr. Romanek that defy any scientific or rational explanation. Frequently these events were in the company of a number of top MUFON investigators. I don’t believe my anger is directed at MUFON but at Mr. Carrion’s personal actions although he functions as the Director of MUFON International.
In 1965 I was serving in Viet Nam in the US Armed Forces in Naval Air Intelligence. I was forced by a US Navy Captain sent by the Pentagon to meet with me and force me to hide critical information I had discovered in the course of my investigative duties that specifically pertained to our ability to end the war in extremely short order. I found the suppression of this critical information contemptuous. That is why I left the service and refused any offers made by the US Intelligence Agencies to recruit me.
I smell the same kind of rat here. I find Mr. Carrion’s public comments regarding Mr. Romanek’s experiences unprofessional and inexcusable. I have had more respect for MUFON’s activities and efforts up to this point. I hope Carrion’s comments on Mr. Romanek’s experiences are not sanctioned by the MUFON organization. Top MUFON investigators I personally know and have worked with would never take a public position based on a small fraction of information and evidence associated with Mr. Romanek’s experiences. Especially a misspelling on a document that is substantially inconsistent with a preponderance of indisputable empirical evidence involved with Mr. Romanek.
Mr. Carrion has taken a very specific isolated slice of confidential and proprietary information given him and delivered it in a public manner. This kind of action violates fiduciary responsibilities outlined by the MUFON organization. This violation of trust is not acceptable practice anywhere…ever. This kind of information is reluctantly shared with MUFON by individuals who are concerned about such misuse and abuse of proprietary information. If we’re talking about credibility and integrity I think the intelligent public has to look at Mr. Carrion’s actions very seriously.
Cofounder, and former Director of MUFON John Schuessler has always conducted himself, and his work, with high standards that I am not seeing in Mr. Carrion. If I’m not questioning Mr. Carrion’s professionalism and competency then I guess I’m questioning his motivations. I see this conduct within our government, the commercial news media and other major economic interests threatened by the disclosure of the UFO/ extraterrestrial realities but not public watchdog organizations supposedly dedicated to understanding these matters with the highest of professional and ethical standards for the benefit of humanity.
While I agree that Mr. Carrion’s comments regarding misspellings on a certain document are concerning I have to say that no responsible investigator would ever ignore the overwhelming amount of other evidence and witnesses solidly confirming his experiences. Is it possible a government agency could have set this up? It would be a clever way to discredit a case wouldn’t it? I also wonder why Mr. Carrion has chosen not to check, or accept, the opinions of MUFON members and investigators that have been with Mr. Romanek during some of these unexplainable sightings and other highly unexplainable events? Their opinions seem to conflict with Mr. Carrion’s and quite frankly they have more firsthand knowledge from personal experience. Perhaps this substandard methodology is because Mr. Carrion has never been a MUFON investigator and for some reason chooses not to accept experienced MUFON investigators opinions that have been closer to the matter!
Why would anyone go out of their way to taint public opinion on such an important matter all serious UFO investigators and researchers worldwide struggle to understand? Reading Carrion’s comments I was originally very disappointed in with the MUFON organization taking such a leap to damage one of the world’s best opportunities to begin understanding this amazing unfolding extraterrestrial reality. As I let Mr. Carrion’s comments fester within me I realize I can’t let this unprofessional action go without taking it on head to head. Especially knowing the powerful truths and realities I have reluctantly come to accept regarding Stan Romanek’s bizarre and unexplainable experiences.
I will not allow the dozens of credible facts of Mr. Romanek’s experiences over the past 9 years, and witnessed by hundreds, be undermined by the irresponsible actions of one individual placed in a high position of trust. Is this the new standard for MUFON? I can’t imagine a 40 year old organization degrading its integrity to this level of behavior by its leadership.
Mr. Carrion seems to have forgotten about some investigating basics such matters are to be well informed, include all facts and information available, do not leap to conclusions or make assumptions on important matters, be professional, be ethical, be responsible and objective. Again I have to ask how and why you would take such a careless and irresponsible action? Every answer anyone can come up with is deeply disturbing.
In summary I would have to say “get it straight Mr. Carrion or get out of the way of capable individuals who are looking for the whole truth”. This matter is far too important to let a loose cannon get in the way of the world’s understanding of this historic shift into a greater reality.

Halloween, Scarier Than UFO Investigations?
Posted by zukowski on October 26th, 2009UTE VALLEY ROCK FACE INVESTIGATION, COLORADO SPRINGS, CO
Halloween comes but once a year and originates from a Pagan holiday, which we still celebrate today, but for a different purpose. Originally Halloween landed on the last day of the eighth month of the Roman calendar, and the name October originated from the Latin word “octo” meaning “eight”. Halloween or originally known as “All Hallows Eve” dated back over 2000 years and actually landed on the last day of the Celtic calendar year. The Celtic word Samhain signifies “summer’s end” or the beginning of the Roman month November. Samhain was a harvest festival with giant bonfires marking the end of the Celtic year and the beginning of a new one. The Celts originally believed the souls of the dead roamed the village streets on this night and since some of the souls may not be so friendly, the Celts left offerings of gifts and treats. Villagers would also extinguish the fires in their homes to make them cold and undesirable to the spirits and prevent possible haunting and possessions from the bad spirits. They would also dress in ghoulish costumes and make lots of noise to frighten away the bad spirits so they could enjoy the company of the good spirits which, they believed to be friends and family.
The festival of Samhain transformed into what we now know as Halloween when the Christian missionaries attempted to change the religious practices of the Celtic people. Not being able to change the Druid beliefs, Christians created their own holiday for competition thinking eventually their new holiday would take over the Celtic one. Thus, All Saints day was created and originally fell on the same day as All Hallows Eve. Eventually the new holiday was bumped by one day and now lands on November 1st which is a celebration for all the Christian Saints.
As a UFO Investigator we get to celebrate some sort of Halloween every time we go on a paranormal/alien type of investigation. I never really thought about this until a local reporter printed that I investigate most things people generally ‘run from’. I got to thinking, “Hell yeah I do!” I get to celebrate Halloween all the time, but without wearing the costumes, well except for some of the t-shirts I wear. But, do UFO investigators ever get scared while on an investigation? Once again, “Hell Yeah We Do!” If you’re not a little scared, then you’re not at your best. With being a little scared, you become very cautious which could land you some good evidence. You also become very skeptic about everything you see and hear eliminating all the human-like possibilities, which could damage your investigation. But back to being scared, I’d like to share with you one of my humorous stories resulting from one of my many investigations.
One late night I was near the city of Rush Colorado off the main highway on an old ranch dirt road. This particular investigation was to research a recent cattle mutilation and craft sighting which had previously occurred in that area. Ok, I’ll set the mood…. it was a moonless clear night, a little chilling but not too cold. I stood in the tall weeds near a ranch fence just feet away from my parked jeep. Watching the dark sky with my night vision scope and listening to the Coast to Coast show on the Jeep’s radio, I cautiously scanned the night sky and distant horizon looking for anything which might appear unusual looking. Slowly scanning to the left towards an open field, I thought I heard a noise through my right ear. Stopping all breathing momentarily to increase the silence of the night, once again I heard a shuffle noise to my right. Eyes open wider than the optics of my scope, I slowly scanned to my right looking through the night vision tring to spy on the source of the noise I was hearing. Once again I heard the noise and quickly jerked to the right. Now scope in hand and up to my eye, to my horror and dis-belief I saw two large oval looking eyes staring right back at me! Now these eyes were not low to the ground but at my eye level and HUGE! Slowly putting my scope down and reaching for my flashlight with my left hand, and slowly putting my thumb and fore finger on the tip of my 9mm Ruger handle which was holstered to my right hip, (Oh did I tell you I carry a gun on these investigations? I’m not an idiot, I don’t go unarmed, especially when I’m by myself). Anyway, lifting the flashlight to my chest, my plan was to hit the light, then decide whether or not to draw my gun from its snapped holster.
Oh “ADD” moment: On this date of writing the blog, October 26th, back in 1881, was the gunfight at the O.K. Corral in Tombstone, Arizona. The gunfight which started about 3pm in a vacant lot near Fremont street resulted with about thirty gun shots which were fired within thirty seconds. Involving the Earps, Doc Holiday, the McLaurys and the Clantons, this gun fight is generally regarded as the most famous gunfight in the history of the Old West. Wah-hoo!
OK, back to the story. Holding my breath I moved my thumb to the side switch on my black steel Stinger flashlight and pushed in slowly. A bright beam of light shot forward illuminating 15 or so feet of dark space between me and the noise as I peered forward. Heart pounding, breathing paused, there stood in front of me….. a 1500 pound cow. OK, I let a 1500 pound cow sneak up on me! Oh yeah, this sucker was big and in stealth mode. Moving like an obese Ninja through the darkness of night, this God’s creature scared the Shit Out of Me! Some investigator, letting this manufacturer of milk and beef scare the “beef-i-cass” out of me. I have to laugh and still laugh about it today.
So can Halloween be more scary than some UFO investigations? Actually, this story was a more comicable type, and is always fun to tell. I have been involved in UFO investigations which fall into the realm of “actual” scary and some I can’t even talk about because the people involved. I’ll share some of those stories later, but the moral of this Halloween blog is to focus on the humorous side of an investigation.
How about this for a moral?
The next time you’re out late at night, in the middle of no-where, and you think a scary entity is slowly creeping up on you, it might just turn out to be, “A big fat stupid ol’cow who’s only intention in life is to use ancient Cow Ninja tactics to sneak up and scare the crap out of you!” Geeeesh…

Balloon Boy a Learning Experience
Posted by zukowski on October 20th, 2009On October 15th when I first heard about a weather balloon becoming un-tethered and flying around the state of Colorado, I thought hmm, we’re going to get allot of UFO sightings with this one. When I heard a 6 year old boy might be inside the balloon, I thought, “ Holy Shi@#$%&”. I along with others watching this on TV and monitoring the news on the Internet needed to see how it would all play out.
UFO investigators watch events like this one very closely and learn from them. Doing so can help us with future dramatic investigations in learning how the media and the public deals with them. I’m sorry to say that after I started reading the initial reports to get my self up-to-speed with the media, I quickly started thinking hoax. Somehow deep down, I knew the little boy would not be in the balloon and still be at home. Call it an investigative gut feeling, or just being cautious and not throwing the horse before the cart. I know the media is good at exploiting any situation to extreme conditions to satisfy their own publicity needs. They are no longer reporting the news to inform the public, but have become the very intrusive Paparazzi clones that instead of stalking celebrities, stalk the news. And stalk they do, capturing every channel, interrupting favorite TV shows just to push information to the viewer they believe is relevant to what the viewer needs. They’ve become so flaccid as so called news investigators, that they themselves miss the very red flags, which once again defines a comfort zone between common sense and intelligent common sense. How sad they’ve become, and I have to laugh now when they’re only excuse is, “Oh even the mighty TV reporter can get ‘shammed’ from time to time, then they proceed to give us previous examples when this happened. They refuse to admit that their investigative skills have gone the way of the Dodo and Woolie. Maybe they should start taking lessons from UFO Investigators who handle the unusual stories regularly and think before they speak.
While reading initial reports my Spider senses started kicking in, I mean my UFO investigative skills I immediately started thinking hoax. Not a day or 2 days later, but at the get go. Something didn’t smell right with this story and too many red flags started showing up. This event was turning into a (grade A) number one hoax, something seasoned UFO investigators have a tendency to spot from time to time.
Disclaimer: Even though I originally thought this event was a hoax and still do, the Colorado judicial system will ultimately make that decision and we should consider the Heene family innocent until proven guilty.
Ok back to the hoax.. (he he)
Immediately, I started questioning some of the media facts. (ie: Media facts are not necessarily the real facts, but what they consider factual news and report on.) The media has been known to “bend” the truth for ratings. Ya think? And, they are just as responsible for the “proposed” hoax as the individuals who initiated it. Ratings, it’s all about ratings and mindless TV sponges suck it all up and bow to the demi-Gods of media expertise who shove it down their faces. Yeah, I have issues with these guys, and yes I’ve dealt directly with them in the past so I do have the right to voice my opinion.
Well the first Original Red Flag for me was: Why was the Mylar weather balloon filled with helium? Helium is a natural gas which is drilled for. I believe Texas and Oklahoma have natural gas wells that contain around 5% more helium, and is extracted there. Helium is actually rare! The gas field has to be enclosed in radioactive rock for helium to be produced. It takes millions of years for the radioactive rock to slowly decay to create this gas. So, why was the balloon partially filled with helium? This balloon was getting ready for flight! If someone was going to check for leaks in an experimental balloon, then you would use just air, it’s a lot cheaper.
Second Original Red Flag: How was the balloon released? Authorities claim the silver balloon was 20 feet long and 5 feet high. This sucker was big? Only a complete idiot would partially fill a balloon of this size with helium, and then use only mediocre constraints to secure it. This didn’t just escape, it was released. Well, later reports confirmed my original assumption. It was purposely released as seen by later video.
Third Original Red Flag: An older brother saw his younger sibling go inside the base of a helium filled balloon, to play? Where the Hell were their parents? Geeesh! Can you say, “Child Services?”
Fourth Red Flag: Could this type of balloon carry a pay-load weight of an average size boy of his age? A Colorado State University physics professor, using dimensions given by Richard Heene, had told sheriff’s officials as they were tracking the balloon Thursday that it was plausible for it to lift off with 37-pound (17-kilogram) Falcon inside. So, the fourth red flag was answered by a creditable authority. But what about the other three?
Let’s look at the original report:
The father had told reporters the family was in the early stages of working on a “3D low-altitude vehicle” (aka balloon) when the contraption and the boy went missing. His brother had said he watched Falcon get into the balloon before (the father) had un-tied the tethers, setting it free. Heene later said Falcon was videotaped getting into the vessel by his brother, but “obviously he got out.” Once it was untethered, the saucer-like craft flew eastward from the Heenes’ neighborhood and across Colorado’s countryside.
Now a week later we have a better idea how this event went down and of course now the media is screaming “Hoax!” Well maybe if they thought more like a UFO investigator they wouldn’t have egg on their face. With every UFO investigation assigned to me or one I go after, I always start as a skeptic first. Yep, you have to look for all the red flags then proceed with caution. This story is a great example of jumping into an investigation too quickly and not being careful then leaning towards “stupid”. Yep, we can all learn something valuable from this story when it comes to investigations.
First, look at the source of information. If your witness has a history of suspicious behavior, then suspect him, or her and perform the appropriate tasks to cover all the bases, and this does include chasing a balloon which may have the slightest chance a child is on board.
Second, what happened to completing an on-site initial investigation? In the case of the missing boy, a proper canine unit would have found him pretty quickly.
Third, suspect and expect the unexpected. Challenge everything! Look for anything unusual, watch for red flags and go after them.
Fourth, keep an eye on what’s going on around you and watch your eyewitness’s actions and reactions. If the media is present, watch what they’re doing which may make your investigation more difficult to pursue.
Fifth, try to run your own initial investigation and don’t let your initial opinion or thoughts be curved by outside sources. Go with your gut feeling even though it may be completely different from the majority rule. Use your previous experience through investigations to help you decide what your next plan of action is.
Sixth, compare notes with other investigators after your initial thought process. This will help you excel in the direction you want to go. You may or may not agree with the other opinions, but give yourself the opportunity to make that decision.
So after reading this blog please leave a comment, because my blog and your comments will help me and other investigators excel in this crazy business. What are your thoughts about the “Balloon Boy Incident”?

Miller Cattle Mutilation 03/18/09
Posted by zukowski on October 13th, 2009Nestled out in the middle of ”out-there” near Trinidad Colorado, lay a five week old calf succumbed to a mysterious death. This was the second time rancher Miller had experienced this type of ‘unknown” death with one of his animals. The previous death he had encountered was in the late 1990′s when Colorado had a rash of Cattle Mutilations.
The calf was found near a feed tub Tuesday morning 03/17/09 in an area where all the cows congregated twice daily to eat. The location and the herd appeared normal Monday late afternoon when the animals were being fed by the ranchers. The calf was found the next morning roughly 5 feet from the feed tub laying in the present condition.
The rancher and cattle inspector found it odd that the torso of the animal was damaged this way. They had never seen predator or scavenger damage like this before. The assumption was “they felt” the animal had been dropped from a great height to achieve this type of trauma. Upon inspection of the animal there was no pooling of blood from the carcass around the area where the calf was found. For this type of damage by a predator, and later by a scavenger, generally there are large amounts of blood on the hair and at the scene where the carcass is found.
Statistics:
The calf was approximately one week old and weighed roughly 100 pounds. At the time of death the animal’s value was an estimated $150.00. The low value was based merely on the age of the animal only to increase as the animal matured. The calf’s girth was 13 inches, it’s head length 10 inches and head girth 7 inches. The calf’s center section was 24 inches and leg from top of the thigh to hoof was 14 inches.
Both ears left and right side were cut out in a circular fashion. Tom, other ranchers, and the Colorado Brand Inspector who viewed this calf, agreed they had never seen predator or scavenger damage like this. They told me it looked as though a laser or surgical instrument had made the incision.
Besides the normal investigative techniques used, the following were also checked:
- Radiation check done on carcass and area where calf was found. No radiation detected.
- EMF analysis performed at carcass. I did detect an electro-magnetic field about 6 microteslas, but need to understand the readings to see if its natural.
- Magnetic scan over hair, bagging any type of metallic substance available.
- Black-light scan over carcass. No fluorescence seen.
Samples Taken:
- Left ear removed outside of cut anomaly.
- Right ear removed outside of cut anomaly.
- Left rear leg skin and hair sample.
- Skin and hair sample taken at what appears to be the genital area.
- Dirt samples taken at mutilation site and controlled site for comparison.
- Magnetic debris scan.
- Cutting knife bagged.

Stan Romanek’s word “Fallow” versus “Follow”
Posted by zukowski on October 1st, 2009MUFON’s “head honcho” James Carrion had previously posted a blog in which he insinuated abductee Stan Romanek had fabricated an Air Force document which was used in his abduction case. James’s accusation is based on a misspelled word which appeared on the government document as well as three other documents Stan was responsible for. The word in question is “fallow” instead of “follow”. I would assume James caught the misspelled word in the Air Force document, then searched other documents written by Stan and found the misspelled word in three others. One thing I don’t know is, “How many documents James had researched to find the three in question or how he was even able to acquire the Air Force document for comparison?” Stan had stated numerous times, the document was never given to MUFON. Well, this post is not to lay blame on either side, but to look into the aspects of the misspelling of a word.
People misspell words everyday and unless you have the proper spell-checker embedded within the software you’re typing through, certain words will get through. No argument here, we’ve all seen this.
Another issue is using a word out of context or contents… hmm… yeah context. How about words like “follow” to “fallow” or my favorite, “from” to “form”. These words will spell check alright and slip through your fingers, only leaving the reader with the unnecessary feeling of, “what did that mean?”
Ok, since the word “fallow” is of most interest here, let’s take a look at it.
Fallow:
Merriam-Webster Online Dictionary
Main Entry: 1fal·low
Pronunciation: \?fa-(?)l?\
Function: adjective
Etymology: Middle English falow, from Old English fealu; akin to Old High German falo
pale, fallow, Latin pall?re to be pale, Greek polios gray
Date: before 12th century : of a light yellowish-brown color
Well obviously all the documents were describing the color of the aliens. They’re not gray or is it grey, but a light yellowish brown color. Well, time to hop back to the Internet for answers. Here are a few websites which talk about commonly misspelled words. And yes, you’ll probably find some misspelled words or grammar issues in this blog too! I’m only human, or am I?

So, back to misspelled words which can show up on documents on the Internet or just happen to show up on government documents in your mailbox. We can see in just these few cases, only a couple of words were in common. Do only certain misspelled words pop up depending on the type of document written, or the person or persons writing them? Or, do they show up due to the type of spell checker associated with the software used? Let’s look at the word “fallow” again. Lisa Romanek was so kind to send me this list of links in which the word “fallow” and “follow” were used and confused.

( Thank you Lisa )
What’s the conclusion? The government document in question is out of Schriever AFB, Co. I’m not going to detail what the document says, except for the last line stating, “we will fallow up as things unfold”. This is where the dreaded word “fallow” shows up. Here’s the question to the readers of this blog: Could a government document include a word which is misspelled but missed due to the misspelling being an actual word with a different definition? (Get that?) Also, can this word be so commonly misspelled that it could be included with different documents associated to the same person? Here’s another scenario:
What if the document is fake, but not at the hands of Stan Romanek in which James Carrion implies, but at the hands of another agency or individuals created for an unknown reason?
I know for a fact there is an unknown agency trying not only to intimidate Stan and his family, but also trying to and succeeding at times to infiltrate Stan’s investigation. The last attempt was just a few days ago in which I responded. We know there are individuals trying to disrupt Stan’s life and create disinformation in his investigation. This government document could be a product of this, or it could be an actual document which was given to Stan from an unknown source. And yes, the third possibility would be Stan created the document himself. But, from what I’ve seen in people I’ve interviewed, this wouldn’t be a possibility in my eyes. Am I bias? I don’t think so. Stan is still having experiences in which I can’t talk about. So, what about the misspelled word? How about we hear from you, the readers? How many “official” documents have you seen misspelled? Got some to share? How about other thoughts on this issue?

UFO Debunkers
Posted by zukowski on September 24th, 2009
What is a “UFO” debunker?
Am I a UFO debunker??
Am I a UFO debunker??
Is this an individual who purposely tries to debunk a UFO sighting by lying, or an individual who believes that the possibility of life visiting this planet is ridiculous? Could this be a person who is just trying to debunk a particular investigation based on lack of evidence or some contaminated evidence associated with the case? Or, could it be UFO investigators?
As a MUFON investigator I’ve been “pegged” a debunker too! I’ve been told that just my association with MUFON has labeled me a debunker and a “hide-r of truth”. Sure, I’m a skeptic with every UFO or Paranormal investigation I start with. I’ve stated that numerous times even on national TV. Hell, you have to be. This business will eat you alive if you don’t address every sighting with some suspicion. If you think every light in the sky sighting is a UFO, or alien related, then it’s time to find another pastime hobby. When addressing any new and current investigations, I like to base my thoughts on common sense or what I like to call, “Intelligent Common Sense”. Let me explain.
Common Sense: Consists of thoughts or actions in which people in common would agree with.
People in common? Common to what? How about to society at this point in time and at a particular location on this planet. So common sense can, and will vary throughout this planet.
Intelligent Common Sense: This is the variety of common sense used wisely. There is some form of a thought process when making a common sense decision or a common sense claim. Common sense tells us life exists outside this planet.
Intelligent Common sense makes the claim, “There’s a real possibility that life outside this planet has visited us in the past, or could be visiting us currently”. This statement is conclusively based on what we know of this planet’s history, its science, and what we know about the planets outside our solar system. Of course this all changes with every new bit of information we learn about ourselves and the universe. And at this time, it looks pretty good for the aliens.
Ok, Intelligent Common Sense. I love using this term in UFO investigations. Why? Because this can be used in your favor against debunkers, skeptics and pesky reporters.
Case in Point: My sister Debbie and I were responsible for two Press Releases out of Roswell within the past two years. One on July 5, 2008 and one on April 30th of this year. Both times we used Intelligent Common sense on what we said, who we brought with us, and what information we gave out to the public. In both cases the debunkers were very limited to what I call the “Armchair Debunkers”.
Armchair Debunkers: These are individuals who have nothing better to do than to make a negative comment about your investigation based solely on their opinion. This term, “Based on their opinion”, is very important. They may or may not have performed research, but my experience has shown me that their motivation is purely based on their personal views of one’s claims. Now it’s not up to me or my sister to convince anyone of what we are claiming, it’s our personal quest just to get the information out and let the viewers, conference attendees, or readers, make up their own minds.
This brings me back to “Debunkers”. Most of the time it’s very frustrating dealing with these people but (and here’s the proverbial but), Debunkers will keep you honest and focused on your investigation. They are a necessary evil to UFO
investigators. They are? Absolutely! Any “so called” investigator or charlatan can make a claim about a UFO event. Then they say this, “Well the burden of proof of disclaiming what I’m presenting is on you.” No. The burden of proof lies with the person making the claim based on what investigative research they’ve done up to that point. After that, the burden of proof lies with the individuals who are making the negative claims about the investigation. This separates the boys from the men, the women from the girls, the aliens from the ghosts, or uh… well it just separates them. Investigators as well as Debunkers fall within these walls. I say this, but you said that, what proof do you have I said this, what proof do you have I didn’t? Oh the merry-go-round methods of UFO investigations. It never ends, grab a ticket and come along for the ride. It’s always exciting and different.
A comment on one of my YouTube videos on the “Roswell Rock Circle” from a debunker suggested I just do this for fame. Most of us UFO investigators know this is a complete joke and a lazy excuse from a debunker. Why? Because, “There’s no money in this!” It’s not a career for gosh sakes, it’s a hobby. A hobby which takes more out of pocket money than in pocket money. We do this because we want to, not because we have to. Fame, what a lame excuse used by this particular debunker. And they always say, “Well I know this guy, or I have a friend” that can debunk you, but nothing’s ever conclusive. Just a bunch of unnecessary noise they feel they need to say. So who is looking for fame? The investigator or the debunker? Hmmmm? At the end of the day, it’s about our passion, and yes, perhaps our belief. We do this for a cause and, yes, we certainly hope to bring about awareness. If you confuse that with a selfish pursuit of fame, then UFO investigators like myself will never convince you otherwise.
Good debunkers are ones which have done their own investigations or have done their own research on your claims or on the particular investigation you’re working with. I listen to these guys (or gals) because they’ve spent personal
time and energy on the investigation. They could be absolutely correct about a particular part of your investigation, or they may have found evidence which contradicts what you have. Of course they can be absolutely wrong too and
completely “off base”. Either way, as an investigator you can’t possibly find all the information about the project you’re on. You have to rely on the positive and negative information of your investigation to pursue it further. Roswell is a good example of this. The problem with these types of debunkers who are also investigators, is that they will pick apart one little aspect of an incident or investigation. They make the claim, “Well if “so and so” said this and I can prove it’s wrong, then you can’t believe anything “so and so” says. If that was true, then why even have a Democratic Government? We all know there are truths and untruths coming out of DC. We’re betting our lives and our dreams that the truths outweigh the untruths by a lot. Pretty scary huh?
In every investigation I do, there are always some flaws. We’re all human and the flaws are usually related to the human aspects associated with the evidence of the investigation. Criminal investigations see this all the time. People are sent to prison every day because the negatives outweigh the positives of the investigation. Debunkers feed on this. They’ll find one or two “hiccups” then run on them. They say things like, “Even investigators can get caught up in the lies or misconceptions of the investigation”. Well, the debunkers can too! A person becomes a debunker when they’re bias towards a particular UFO event or person outweighs their ability to be objective and reasonable. They may not realize they’re bias, and sometimes it takes an outside source to convince them, but they’re biased nevertheless.
Then again, as a UFO investigator we can become debunkers too! We may be so convinced with the evidence or “lack of” evidence we have, that we think our investigation is bullet proof. A good investigator always “refreshes” the evidence they have and just doesn’t assume any new evidence is valid. Sometimes it’s hard to re-question a witness because they don’t understand why you can’t just believe them. But, at this time, I’m happy to say all my current investigations, although not bullet proof, have sufficient good evidence which outweighs the insufficient, bad evidence. This “teeter totter” action is what enables investigators to pursue their investigations further. And it’s all because of debunking. Good, bad, right, wrong, or sometimes completely ridiculous, we all need a little debunking in every one of our investigations if we’re ever going to learn the truth about it.

Garren Cattle Mutilation (viewer discretion)
Posted by zukowski on September 22nd, 2009
This animal was last seen on Friday afternoon March 20th 2009. The ranch manager had counted all animals when feeding, so we can verify this. Saturday afternoon around 2:30pm the ranch manager was feeding the herd and noticed his count was off by one. After looking around in areas where cows had grazed previously, he spotted the animal dead.
He noticed the “udder” had been removed.
Upon closer observation, “he stated” it looked like it had been surgically removed.
Evidence of new born calf. Remains of the placentia.
Doing a quick walk around looking for evidence, he spotted a new born calf. It had seemed the cow delivered the calf sometime Friday night, and the calf was able to nurse briefly until the mother was killed. The calf was waiting at the birthing area for the mother to return. The ranch manager rescued the calf and as of my investigation the calf was doing fine and being bottle fed. What ever killed the cow and removed the udder, was not interested in a new born calf. Question: Would a predator attack a 1100 pound animal for food, when a new born calf lay helplessly less than 50 yards away? New born calves have a defense mechanism of low scent to protect against predators, but the placenta is rich in vitamins and “is not” odor free.
Scavenger damage done Saturday night March 21st. Ranch manager has pictures from Saturday afternoon showing “no” scavenger damage.
This image shows scavenger damage which occured sometime Saturday night. Notice the difference in scavenger damage and the second image showing the udder missing. Notice no stains on the ground near the udder but stains on the ground near the anal area.
Saturday evening March 21st, I received approval from the ranch owner to meet him the next day Sunday March 22nd to conduct my field investigation.
Animal Statistics
1. The animal is a cross breed Angus and Gelbvieh
2. She was 2.5 years old
3. She weighed 1070 lbs on October 08th.
4. Length was 7 feet long from head to rear, girth 2 foot 4 inches on side.
5. Head was 1 foot 8 inches long, width 1 foot 2 inches on the side.
6. Diet was fortified with vitamin A due to lack of green foliage in the area.
7. She birthed only one time, the Friday night before her death.
8. Animal was laying on left side, head was pointing 230 degrees.
9. Eyes, ears and tongue was still on animal.
10. Immediate size of local herd equalled 17.
Field Investigation
1. Interview with rancher on video.
2. Digital pictures taken of animal and surrounding area.
3. Radiation Check at animal, surrounding area and birthing area. (None detected)
4. EMF Check at animal. 10 to 15 microteslas.
5. Animal measurements performed to best of ability. Exact stats can be retrieved from owner.
6. Bare spot located 40 feet S/E of animal and appears to be old ant hill, (bagged dirt sample)
7. GPS coordinates taken and sketch of animal with compass stats
8. Animal sample areas, one at udder and one at scavenger damage area.
9. Check eyes, ears, tongue, teeth. All appear normal.
10. Magnetic sweep on skin looking for metallics. None appear to be found, but bagged anyway.
11. Dark or Puncture mark check. None found.
12. Check for blood pooling, or bath. None found, only blood area was near scavenger damage and birthing area. Noticeable slight oozing of clear liquid from nose and mouth.
13. Compass check for unusual needle movement, none appeared.
14. Soil samples take at animal 1 foot, 5 foot, 10 foot, 15 foot, and 30 foot in N/W direction.
15. Vegetation sample taken from branch directly above animal.
16. Area sweep in spiral pattern moving out from animal. Checking for any thing that seems unusual or out of place. None detected.
17. IR Check/Fluorescent check could not be performed due to time constraints and conditions.

Lights in the Sky
Posted by zukowski on September 21st, 2009The majority of sightings UFO investigators receive are mostly lights in the sky. Using the classification system first generated by J Allen Hynek, lights in the sky would be classified as CE1.
- CE1: Close Encounters of the First Kind. Generally lights in the sky or a UFO sighted within 500 feet. This is the most common of all sightings and I’ll discuss this one further.
- CE2: Close Encounters of the Second Kind. This is a sighting in which some form of physical evidence is left behind. Cases which have marks on the ground, broken tree branches, or residue or wreckage left behind.
- CE3: Close Encounters of the Third Kind. Ok this one is cool, a visual sighting of an occupant or entity associated with the UFO sighting. Usually the standard “Grey” alien is observed, but many people have described a vast majority of different type of alien species.
- CE4: Close Encounters of the Fourth Kind. This sighting would refer to the Stan Romanek case. An abduction of a person by an alien being or race of aliens.
- CE5: Close Encounters of the Fifth Kind. Direct contact or communication with an alien being or race. Could this include government alien intervention? Did President Eisenhower have a meeting with extraterrestrials on February 20th, 1954? The story goes that President Eisenhower was secretly and quickly escorted from his family holiday in Palm Springs California to Edwards Air Force Base California to meet with an extraterrestrial race. The meeting resulted in a treaty between the alien race and the US government.
Back to “Lights in the Sky”. Some lights in the sky are basically an optical illusion.
An optical illusion: A visual perception of a real object in such a way as to misinterpret what the object actually is.
The most common illusion is when you try to concentrate on an infinite distance image in the night sky. Look at a star and try to focus on it. Your right eye will try to focus while you’re left eye tries to focus causing the speck of light to look like it’s moving slightly left to right and back again. We get these type of sightings all the time especially in the winter when Venus pops up or in the summer when Jupiter arises.
Another light in the sky which has a tendency to look like it moved is generally spotted in photographs and not at the time the photo was taken. What happens is a picture is taken of a light source in the sky, but when the image is seen, the object appears to have moved. Generally the object looks like it moved from upper left to lower right creating a blurred streak. The object is actually a stationary light source and the movement is caused by the person’s finger pushing down on the shutter button. This type of condition occurs all the time with law enforcement officers at the shooting range. If you’re right handed and you move the weapon slighting while depressing the trigger, the bullet usually goes to the lower left. Try this yourself. Hold out your hand pointing your index finger straight out and pretend to pull the trigger using your middle finger. What happens? Your index finger moves to the left. You just “missed the target”. Same thing happens when you take a picture. While taking a picture of a single spec of light from a great distance, the movement of pressing your finger down on the shutter button moves the camera slightly down to the right (if you’re right handed) causing the image to look as though it’s moved. If you want to take a picture of a stationary light in the sky which is suspected to be a UFO, then place your camera on a tripod. If your camera has a timer function, then use that and let the mechanics of the camera take the picture. You should be able to get a clean clear picture. Now if the object looks like it’s moving, then you’ve got something to investigate.
I’m still learning about digital cameras and the pictures they take. Remember a digital camera is re-creating or digitally creating the image your seeing. Depending on the size of the optical lens and the camera’s software, it will depend of what type of results you’ll get. What we’re seeing a lot on digital photos now is a bright orb looking light image with a black circle or smudge in the middle. This black smudge or circle is usually caused by the camera’s software and lack of memory to complete the image. While trying to make the rest of the picture look great, the camera’s software basically gives up with the bright light source and leaves a void in the middle. This results in a black dot or smudge in the middle of the bright flash-like looking object you shot. Now I’m not saying you’re not taking a picture of an unknown light source, what I’m saying is, “Don’t put too much thought into what’s coming out of the middle of the bright flash.” You can practice this illusion yourself by taking pictures of very bright light sources. Be careful not to damage the optics in your camera while doing this. Also watch out for lens flares. These are the crescent looking comet tail dragging creatures shooting out of the bright light source. They always look the same, the crescent side is the curvature of the lens and it’s tail is the resulting lens flare. They’re always moving away from the bright light source. Be careful looking at pictures which may have caught the sun or bright moon in the background behind some trees. A digital camera will pick up on this and try to bring the image out on the picture for you. It’s just doing it’s job trying to make your picture look great. Also, lower end “cheaper” cameras will create their own optical illusions. Remember you get what you pay for. If you’re consistently taking pictures of an unknown light source be it in the sky or in the woods, switch cameras and even switch the manufacturer. Try to re-create the unknown light source with a completely different camera. If you succeed, now you may have something unique.
I hope these little tid-bits help you in your quest while taking pictures of lights in the sky. Remember be the best skeptic while analyzing your images and try to recreate the shot if you can. Without doing this, it’s fuel for the de-bunker fires and they will attack. More on “Lights in the Sky” later. Happy Hunting!

Ufology
Posted by zukowski on September 10th, 2009While I was working on a bio and brief description about a lecture I’ll be giving at the 2010 UFO Congress February 21-27, 2010 in Laughlin, Nevada (plug), I started thinking about the word “Ufology”. The word itself is defined as, “The study of unidentified flying objects”. As a “so called” professional Ufologist and I state that lightly because I question the validity of many who claim to be professional Ufologists, I too, like most, don’t harbor a degree in “Ufology”. Is there one? So what constitutes a professional Ufologist? Is this someone who partakes in UFO related field investigations? How about someone who researches the field then writes books and lectures to profit, or maybe a credited scientist who dabbles outside their field of expertise into the unknown?

"Area 51" An Excellent Adventure!
Posted by zukowski on September 2nd, 2009The story you’re about to read was an actual occurrence which I was involved with back in the ’90s; Unless you’re a federal agent in which I will deny everything in this post including the existence of Carrot Top himself.
I was always quite fascinated with the concept of the Area 51 Military facility. For those of you reading this and are unfamiliar with this particular base, it’s more or less a (not so secret base) near Rachel Nevada. The name of the base was probably derived from the NTS mapping grid designation in an area where nuclear testing had occured. Also known as Groom Lake, Dreamland, Watertown and many more, this area is where top secret projects were tested. Oh did I mention? Where flying saucers were flown too! (ie) Read the Bob Lazar story.

The Media-Millenium Brainwash of 2000
Posted by zukowski on September 1st, 2009In 1999 the media exploited the (lie) that January 1st, 2000 was the start of the New Millennium. They said only the Purists were celebrating January 1st, 2001 as the actual New Millennium. The media insisted they were correct, and the only ones who complained were the “Purists”. This should be a lesson for all of us when the Media claims they report the truth. “Yeah right!” It seems they report what ever they want, whenever they want, and what will gain them the most profit margin. Because it all boils down to “shares”. TV shares that is. Marketing is the key, and we are the “lab rats”. I sent numerous emails with attached articles to news stations here in Colorado Springs, Colorado, only to never receive a reply. The News Director never wants to admit they’re wrong. Anyway, enough said about that, we the viewers have learned how ignorant the newcasters really are. If the cue cards say the Earth is square, then they’ll report it. What a shame, and what a waste of talent. The next few paragraphs gives an explaination why 2001 was the start of the New Millennium, this is history folks, and as a society, we won’t know where we’re going if we don’t know where we’ve been.

What is a UFO?
Posted by zukowski on August 30th, 2009What is a UFO ? I like to define it as an ( Unconventional Flying Object )
To an observer, witnessing a UFO is often confusing and certainly unexplainable. What constitutes an actual sighting often depends upon the shape, movement and visual strangeness of the object being observed.

James Carrion, Stan Romanek
Posted by zukowski on August 28th, 2009It came to my attention James Carrion, MUFON’s International Director, who also refers to himself as “Truth Seeker” has submitted a blog on Stan Romanek who I am one of the Independent Investigators for. Hey James! Are you sure you’re not known as “The Smoking Man”? he he (ie. old X-Files) I don’t think James smokes, but after reading his blog on Stan, maybe he should start. Yes I’m a MUFON Field Investigator as well as a MUFON STAR Investigator, but I’m also an Independent UFO Investigator which includes “non” MUFON investigations. For various reasons, some people prefer not to use MUFON, so people like me are available for them and their needs. (Especially after James’s last blog ”feud” with the “Open Minds Forum”.) I guess I’ll be getting pretty busy.

Juju Chang, Jim DuBreuil
Posted by zukowski on August 21st, 2009Don’t Shoot The Messengers!
On April 24th of this year I received an email from Jim DuBreuil at ABC to meet him, Juju Chang and their film crew at Old Stone House Park in Lakewood Colorado. This was a location of one of Stan Romanek’s previous sightings. They were coming into Denver to interview Stan for an upcoming ABC show and asked me if I wanted to do a quick interview too! Jim and I had talked previously over the phone discussing various UFO sightings and abduction stories, so he was quite familiar with who I am, and my investigations. What I liked about Jim was, “He’s up-front”. He said he was the biggest skeptic when it came to Ufology, and I applaud him for his honesty. I told him as a UFO Investigator I have to be a skeptic too if I’m going to invest my time working on a case. Out of the majority of sightings I get, a very small amount turn out to be unknowns. These “unknowns” are what we invest our time and money on.

Alien Abductions; Sleep Paralysis?
Posted by zukowski on August 20th, 2009Why do the skeptics time and time again use “Sleep Paralysis” as the answer for alien abduction stories? Some even go so far as to say ghost sightings fall within that scenario too! I guess Jason and Grant pretty much fool us all with every ghostly encounter they record on audio and video. We must all be asleep while watching their show, Ghost Hunters.
(Yeah I am being sarcastic)
